882 mb: The Hurricane That Broke Every Record | Hurricane Wilma True Story
In October 2005 a messy storm in the Caribbean did something no Atlantic hurricane had ever done. Within about a day it collapsed to the lowest pressure ever measured in the basin: 882 millibars, with an eye only 2.3 miles wide. This documentary follows Hurricane Wilma from a sprawling depression near Jamaica to a record-breaking monster, then through its impacts on Mexico, Cuba, Florida and the Bahamas. We look at what rapid intensification is, why scientists still cannot fully predict it, and what Wilma changed for forecasters, governments and ordinary families. Stay to the end for the lessons and the open questions that remain.
